L.A Record Nov. 2008

Don’t you dare call the Soft Hands “No Wave.” With their debut full length, Hours pass By, the Long Beach trio has further defied convention, unless of course you consider “fucking awesome” a genre. The album starts off with the frenzied “Had A Vision” and continues with “Up The Ladder”, featuring a commanding bass line provided by Miss Elizabeth Lindsey. The record never slows down for any of its eleven punchy tracks. “Harbor” is my pick for best track on the record. It starts out with a groove that just won’t quit and by the end of the first listen you are out of breath. Lindsey, who is arguably one of the best indie bass players in Southern California, showcases her deep and sultry vocals for the first time, which are the perfect compliment to singer/ guitarist Matt Fry’s distinctly high and anxious voice. Throw in drummer Casey Stuht’s savage beats and you have a recipe for one of the most enjoyable releases I’ve heard all year. This record is fabulous from start to finish.
