In this beginner guitar lesson, You’ll discover the most famous music scale, power chords, how to read scale charts and more.

On their left hand, guitarist number their fingers. This helps with both learning and teaching. Thumb is just called thumb. Nothing new to remember there. Your pointer finger is now called your 1st finger. Your middle finger is your 2nd finger. Your ring finger is your 3rd finger. Your pinky is your 4th finger. Never forget that!

As you know, there are a few basic things that EVERY beginner guitarist needs to learn. Some classic examples are: how to hold a pick, the notes of the strings, etc. In this lesson we’re gonna cover a few of those things you gotta know. The major scale is definitely one of those things you just gotta learn. Another great piece of knowledge you can pull from this lesson is how to read scale, and chord charts.

Playing Scales shouldn’t be your whole practice session, but playing scales should definitely be a part of it! Scales are obviously fantastic for your technique, but they are also amazing for your ears. When you are learning a new scale, you aren’t just learning the fingering. Your ears are also literally learning the scale, so practice it nice and slow!

Bonus assignment! Learn this scale so well, that you can sing the notes while you play them. Even if you have no aspirations to be a singer. This will help train your ears!

Have fun with this scale! You’ve heard it in a million different songs before, as it is a fundamental building block of music.

The best part of learning this scale is you'll know how to play power chords on electric guitar for beginners.

Power chords use your first and 3rd finger. You'll see that when you take the root and 5th note of your major scale, you'll see the connection to power chords from the major scale.

Yours truly! Will Ripley (Campfire Guitar Star)
