DESCRIPTION:
(author's notes) No this is not the West Side Story, but like in the West Side Story a lover is killed. The ROTC cadet kills Johnny in front of his girl friend after Johnny learns that the ROTC cadets were bugging his room and listening in on his private moments with his sweetheart. There can be more character development of these people in a movie rendition of SDS New Left Notes...though the ending will change as america gets into or starts new wars since this is a perpetual opera, thus the only living monument to the antiwar activist....
how that will be handled in the movie has to be thought through.

ROTC had a home on the campus of Holy Cross and they had a group called the anti guerrilla unit. The cadet North (named in honor of Oliver North) is arrogant, swaggering and violent a Miles Standish type. The protagonist Johnny, a freshman became radicalized and was being spied upon by the ROTC cadets using bugs to learn if the protesters were going to try to burn down the ROTC building as was happening at campuses all over the country. Many campuses got rid of ROTC the military on campus, like Harvard. Harvard brought it back using the free speech argument - which in 1969 would have been countered by the argument that in the Military there is no free speech right so how can such a totalitarian group be allowed to operate on campus....go figure?
