2016 marks the 50th anniversary of The Monkees, a band The Minus 5’s Scott McCaughey has been a fan of since the age of 11. A few years ago, Scott gathered his like-minded Minus 5 cohorts for Of Monkees And Men, crafting a song for each member as well as one for “Boyce & Hart”, the duo that wrote and produced many classic Monkees tracks. Side 2 of the new record eulogizes other important figures that roam Scott’s psyche.

When Scott came through North Carolina last month, we knew we needed a unique location to serve as a backdrop for these new songs and Hillsborough Bicycle was first on our list. Owned by the father-son team of Aaron and Eli Belz, the shop is a local staple and does everything from basic tuneups to full rebuilds.

Scott gave us a preview of a few new tracks, including Davy Jones-inspired “Davy Gets The Girl.” Of Monkees And Men is out on Yep Roc Records this summer.
