The Matches - Life Of A Match (Lyric Video) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Oct 30, 2015
DESCRIPTION:
After recording two new songs that were totally inspired after reuniting for the E. Von Dahl Killed The Locals 10 year anniversary shows, the next logical step was to make a video for one of the songs.

If you knew how challenging it was to coordinate for the four of us to get together to write and record these songs, the planning and logistics of actually being able to shoot a video were pretty impossible. Shawn came up with the idea to do something fun, like take videos from bands we toured with, were friends with, and were part of the same scene we were honored to be a part of (as well as bands that inspired us) and create a tribute to the scene (while trying to have our friends play and sing to our song). Well, what sounded like a “fun” thing to do, after watching it, was way heavier.

Watching this video and looking back on where we came from, who we came up with, and who we still see out there was bittersweet. The memories and feelings we got watching these classic videos and great bands and friends really hit a nostalgic nerve being accompanied by "Life Of A Match".

The song is a tribute to the fans we made over the time we were an active band. The coming up, the breaking through, the making friends and fans… But, watching this video, it became a tribute to all the bands as well. Not to compare with today's music, but this song was about our time. Bands we shared the stage with, listened to, and loved were all touring bands. Passion-filled lifers. We would all record an album on a shoestring budget, get in a shitty van and tour. Sleep on floors, live off of other peoples generosity, and play with all our hearts like every night was our last show. And you were all there to give it right back.

Touring can be a lonely thing, but meeting people and the 30 minutes to one hour on stage were everything. The day to day, tour after tour schedule we all kept up gained us fans in a way being a “radio” band could never achieve. Sure, some of us got bigger because of the radio, but at that time, we all started the same way. It was this unspoken ethic of hard work and appreciation.

Because of the hard work and dedication we put in and the connection and fan dedication you put in, bands like The Matches can go out on tour 6 years after breaking up and sell out shows in markets we never could before. We have seen more 10 year anniversary shows out there that ALL sell out, because YOU made it happen. Seeing The Starting Line, The Movielife, The Academy Is, Motion City Soundtrack, the list goes on ... is amazing. A band like Fall Out Boy getting bigger than they ever were is rad too. They can play arenas all over the world, but will always be the same guys that played the Continental Club in NYC, just like we did.

We wrote the songs, they meant something special to you, and now we can all come back to celebrate those songs again. And trust us, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing how they took on a life of their own in your personal soundtracks.

It’s great to celebrate the band we were. It’s great that you never forgot us and still care. A lot of us are still out there doing it under different names or different musical styles and its great that you continue to support us.

We hope you enjoy this video, share it with your friends, pull out old albums by all your favorite bands, support them when they come to your town, and support the bands they have become.

We obviously have no rights to the videos used, so hopefully nobody takes it down.

May Your Organs Fail Before Your Dreams Fail You.
