DESCRIPTION:
John Kameel Farah plays "Expanse" in the Heilig Kreuz Kirche, Berlin
The title Expanse comes partly repeating rhythmic phrase that the structure is based on, in the time signature 12/8 + 9/16 + 4/8. Improvising over it feels like navigating over an extensive and rocky surface. Expanse is the second movement out of two pieces paired together, the first movement of which is "Uprising":
