Ginger-Snaps - THE SH-DOWN DOWN SONG (1965) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Nov 18, 2010
DESCRIPTION:
NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED - (Dunhill 4003) Recorded at Western Recorders in Hollywood in May 1965, this excellent double-sider was the third single issued on the newly formed, Dunhill Records. Released in June that year, 'The Sh-Down Down' Song' is a heavy bass, drum pounding, horn-filled Girl Pop number produced by Phil Sloan & Steve Barri. L.A.'s 'Wrecking Crew' are as usual in fine form on this rumbling, brassy arrangement that has a very West Coast, Spector sound. The Ginger-Snaps featuring Dandee Dawson is indeed a clever name for a girl group but in reality lead vocals are handled by Miss DOLORES DONALSON with background vocals by The BLOSSOMS. The daughter of a minister, Dolores recorded secular music without credit to her birth name.
