"The Day We Lost Columbia" w/lyrics - Video
PUBLISHED:  Sep 24, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
Lyrics:
When you were young you dreamed
of one day being an astronaut
all your life you'd gaze up into the atmosphere

(Chorus)
Late at night you'd hope and pray lay down and dream
there'll come a day when you will go into the sky
scream out loud I'm gonna fly up high I'm gonna be an astronaut.

Then your dream it came true you were now an astronaut
the time had come for you to go into the atmosphere

(Chorus)

February 1st 2003 now your on your way back home
all your friends and families were waiting for you to return
then we saw the TV screens we held our breath then we screamed
Columbia Columbia Columbia where are you
February 1st 2003 The Day We Lost Columbia.

On February 1st 2003 the space shuttle Columbia exploded during re-entry into earth's atmosphere while returning from it's mission. Aboard was astronaut Willie McCool who lived in Duluth as a youngster for a few years and I thought about how as a young boy he'd look into the sky and dreamed of one day being an astronaut. This song, albeit a raw take, is dedicated in memory of the crew and families of the space shuttle Columbia and every little kid that dreams of one day being an astronaut.
