Hjir means "here" in the Frisian language. The documentary investigates what it means to record music outside of the studio environment. How it affects the musicians, the recording process and the location and its history bring a new dimension to the music and the other way around.
We follow three young, independent Frisian acts as they each record a new song in a unique location.
Dream pop band Sväva recorded the song in the former Blokhuispoort prison of the city of Leeuwarden over the course of 3 days and nights. In the process they discovered that the building - now a cultural centre - has a whole different side to it, a dark history of madness and isolation.
