Flipside: I ADORE HIM - The Angels (The Jersey Girls) formed in 1961 and hailed from Orange, New Jersey. They were sisters Barbara and Phyllis ("Jiggs") Allbut and Linda Jansen. Linda Jansen sang lead on their earlier recordings: TIL, Caprice #107, 1961 and CRY BABY CRY, Caprice # 112, 1962. In 1962 Linda Jansen left for a solo career and Peggy Santiglia joined the group as their new lead singer. That gave them a little different sound. The Angels had 6 songs charted nationally on Billboard. Their biggest, MY BOYFRIEND'S BACK, charted in September, 1963 for 14 weeks and reached #1 and stayed #1 for 3 weeks. It was a monster hit for them.

THANK YOU AND GOODNIGHT charted in December, 1963 for 3 weeks and reached #84. Its flipside, I ADORE HIM, charted much better. It charted the month before, in November, 1963 for 7 weeks and reached #25.

In 1963 I was 19 years old and was already well known for my record collection. Jerry Davis, promoter/producer and manager of another NJ group, The Critters, asked me to spin records at the dances he was sponsoring at The Flagship on Route 22 in Union, NJ. It was just before I joined the Air Force and lucky for me, the last dance I was part of was with The Angels. I was excited to meet them. When they hit the stage to perform that night they were the 3 most beautiful girls you could imagine! Simply GREAT memories!

The Angels worked with everybody who was anybody in the 1960's. They provided background vocals for such popular artists as Neil Diamond, Frankie Valli, and most notably provided the background vocals on Lou Christie's smash hit LIGHTNING STRIKES. Peggy Santiglia Davison also co-wrote the Four Seasons' hit BEGGIN. In the 1980's I always closed my weekly radio show with THANK YOU AND GOODNIGHT.

The Angels continue to perform today, looking and sound fabulous, with original members, Jiggs and Peggy. Jiggs' daughter Karalyn completes the current line-up, replacing her aunt, Barbara.
