For Chicago-bred artist Jak Frost, music is a
movement not a hobby. At the age of 13, Frost used rap as an escape from the trouble of being in and out of
detention centers which eventually took him further down a road of many surprises.
He acclaimed the name Jak Frost
from his reputation in the streets and testament to his real life experiences. The influences of major Chicago artists such as
Crucial Conflict, Do or Die, Twista and Psychodrama inspired him along with other legendary artist including Three Six
Mafia, Biggie, Tupac, Geto Boys, MC Eiht and
Master P.
In 2007, Frost took control of his career putting out his first mix-
tape entitled: Who is Jak Frost? With majority of the production done by himself, Frost spun a huge buzz within the city
creating a plethora of opportunities including opening up for major recording artists such as Keyshia Cole, Lil Wayne,
Trina, Shawnna,
Paul Wall and Yung Joc. He also performed on the International Take Over Tour, touring with Rick Ross,
Shawty Lo, Rocko and Jeezy.
Continuing to build his momentum on the mix-tape circuit, Frost released his second mix-
tape entitled 'The Product' featuring all Chicago producers (110% Pure, Tony Baines, Tapes, Chase Davis, Hearon) along
with one song produced by him. The self-proclaimed songwriter describes his style as "Realistic, I just speak what
I go
through. I write stuff people can relate to, everything has to relate to somebody and you gotta keep up with the concept."
Frost's hot, catchy hooks was another attribute that opened the door for him to do songs with Freeway, Shawnna and
Mush of Terror Squad. As an artist, Frost continues to strive for a level of
star power that will allow him to set his own
trends like many other music moguls in the industry. "I'm tryna be myself follow my own trends and footsteps, do
something different, cats are scared to be different these days."
His favorite part of being an artist is performing, his swag,
energy and keeping the crowd into it. Being that he has graced the stage with many major artists, Frost feels he can
compete with the pros and bring that energy to keep his audience entertained. With many strides, Frost has quickly
created a name for him self,
but continues to grind at getting a label deal. Frost plans to start his own label Da Empire
Entertainment Group (founded 1997) and release his own music along with other hot artists within Chicago. His goal is to
"bring it to the house," as he describes and bring energy, unity and creativity back to music.
