T.Basco - "Hollywood (can wait)" live - OLi Magdeburg 02.12.2011 - Video
PUBLISHED:  Dec 04, 2011
DESCRIPTION:
t.basco is the band of the singer/songwriter Jan Kubon. Since already nearly 10 years they have been presenting their stories and songs. They have also been working together with international stars of the folk scene like J.C. Grimshaw and Paul Armfield from the Isle of Wight. Their new stage program „Songs about angels, fallen girls and other creatures of the night" offers sad and melancholic but also bittersweet and humorous songs somewhere between folk, lofi-blues and alternative country with a dash of americana. All songs are written by charismatic storyteller Jan Kubon. The heavyweight with the temper of a lovesick tomcat sings with his warm barytone about the underdogs, the ones in the shadow of the flickering spotlights, plainly the creatures of the night, that he and his companion Burkhard Schmidt met in bars and gas-stations touring through Germany and Europe. Yet, it´s never whining but bittersweet and cynical, not know-it-all but want-it-all, as the two musicians escort their audience through their musical universe.
Live they play „unplugged" and present a close and atmospheric version of their studio album with only piano and acoustic guitar supporting Kubons songs. Still the songs don´t loose their depth and greatness, due to the sensitive and excellent piano by Burkhard Schmidt and the unique and charismatic voice of Kubon, who accompanies himself on his old big acoustic guitar. It doesn´t take a big production to bring good stories on stage.
t.basco-concerts start out with strangers and end with friends, after an emotional, touching and wonderful show.
