For those of us whose lives were changed by music, we need to speak up for music education and give back to the kids in our communities. No child should be denied the opportunity to discover all the joys and benefits that can be fulfilled b
y playing an instrument. As a child learns the discipline of an instrument, the lessons they receive follow into their academic studies and, ultimately, through their life.

For many children, the sense of freedom experienced through music can change their entire outlook about school and life. My own life was changed by the gift of music. I had a rough time as a child trying to figure out what I was good at until I discovered my musical talent. It boosted my self-esteem, and I received a college scholarship at age 12 by playing the cello. It's only because of music that I now feel like my life is in the right direction. And that 66% of music majors who apply to medical schools get accepted compared to the 44% of Biochemistry majors, I think is amazing. - Matthew John
