From an early age—back when she was known around her hometown of Ivor, Virginia as the “little girl with the big voice”—Tamara was aware of her blessed musical gifts. Her grandmother was a part of the legendary gospel group The Pritchett Sisters. Between her innate talents, and the inspiring musical household she grew up in, a path in music was nearly a given. Tamara would come to build upon the variety of traditional spirituals and revival hymns, blues, funk and soul that soundtracked her youth.

Incorporating the bold musicality and new paradigms of gender and racial representations in popular culture by artists such as Donna Summer, Chaka Kahn, and Tina Turner, Tamara began to find her own voice. She’s emerged a stunningly versatile artist whose aesthetic encompasses soul, jazz and soulful house. James Moore from the tastemaking entity Independent Music Promotions gushes: "I was completely blown away when I first heard Tamara Wellons. She has a stunning, authentic voice that could be completely convincing in almost any genre of music. Her fire burns bright." The General Store, Inc. enthuses: “Tamara is the humble diva next door.”

Tamara has had a profoundly diverse career as a performer and a recording artist. She performed nationally and internationally, including at the prestigious Jazz Café in London. Her debut full-length, Life Is (2008,), was released by OCHA Records, helmed by house music über-producer Osunlade and producer Carlos Mena who formed the label. Her talents and their associations in the house music world, led to collaborations with some of the most prolific names in house music. The album’s first single, “Oh Well,” remains a mainstay in clubs nationally and internationally, and her track “In My Lifetime” has become a South African hit. Her epiphanic performance on “Web Of Deception” from Thievery Corporation’s 2011 album Culture Of Fear (Eighteenth Street Lounge Music) garnered her much deserved visibility and acclaim.
