Playing the Mormon Tabernacle Organ! - Video
PUBLISHED:  Apr 26, 2015
DESCRIPTION:
Earlier today, I was in Salt Lake City with my parents, attending the daily organ recital in the Tabernacle. The performer, Dr. James Drake, was an old friend from when my parents lived in Idaho, so we decided to talk with him after the recital. When my parents introduced me as their most musical son and I confirmed that I played the organ "a little bit," he offered to let me play the organ, an invitation that no organist in their right mind could refuse! After all, the Salt Lake Tabernacle Organ "is considered to be one of the finest examples of the American Classic style of organ building." (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salt_Lake_Tabernacle_organ)

When I got up there, I decided to play Hymn #78 from the LDS Hymnal, "God Of Our Fathers, Whose Almighty Hand," a favorite of mine to play on an organ because of the trumpet fanfare between every phrase. Thankfully, I didn't have to worry about picking from its ~150 stops, as Dr. Drake took care of registration and gave me a good, full organ sound to work with, along with an excellent trumpet voice for the fanfare.

Unfortunately, the video doesn't cover all of my playing, starting late and ending a bit early due to my mom's iPad running out of storage. And yes, I know it's a vertical, but hey, it gets the point across.
