SWAHILI NATION VIDEO (MPENZI) HAKUNA MATATA

Swahili nation is probably one of the hottest duo’s to ever come out of the Diaspora onto the East African music scene. When their biggest record dropped in 1997, it blew the EA airwaves like a tsunami upon a masai village. This was the beginning of a musical revolution on these East African nations of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. They had a group that repped them on an international platform and they were not shy to scream fanatically when the group made its first tour on the summer of 1997. These were the days when Swahili Nation rocked every channel with big joints like Nyama, Mpenzi, Who's the man and more. They influenced a new generation of artists and put there stamp on an industry that was just getting born.

Today Swahili Nation is a small duo kept alive by one of the original members Ken Daniels Kayongo A.K.A Kenzo and a new but always familiar voice, Wayne Beckford A.K.A ‘TRUTH’.

The flavor they brought to the table 10 years ago is even sweeter and more concentrated.

They mince an accolade of beefed up hip-hop beats to a gentle R&B instrumental mixed with Kiswahili lyrics and touch on subjects that have dazzled human beings from time immemorial. These cats are story tellers and their stories are anything but proverbial representations of our day to day lives. Last year they discovered Myspace and it was only natural to see if a shot at it would open up a new fun base for the duo. It is a long shot but one worth giving a try and walking an extra mile for. Making music for these seasoned artists is like asking a lion if he will eat that Gazelle. Heck yea he will with anything but pleasure. Jumping in the studio and dropping a hot track is second nature but the industry is not what it used to be. Technology has changed the dynamics and every single Tom Dick and Harry thinks they got what it takes to make it. That has definitely not fazed this team from their simple objective. Make music, live it, breathe it, eat it and even crap it. It is more than a life style for these Swahili cats; it’s their livelihood and lifeline, a way of living and ultimately their survival kit…

With a bunch of new joints on space, u will not need your hearing aid coz the groove is heavy; it’s urban and has a remotely African feel. It’s almost like putting Usher in a Dashiki with some Versace glasses, a Rolex watch and African sandals. That is Swahili Nation. A group that takes young urban trends and mixes in the earthy African lyric to do what few can.
