September 2011 will see the Sunshine Brothers drop their third album 'Red Alert' which was recorded in the mountains high above Madrid Spain.
Australia's premium purveyors of reggae/dub/roots music are always guaranteed to turn the stage into what looks and feels like the rolling, rollicking deck of a rum-running pirate ship with their armory of atmospheric dub, uplifting reggae and buccaneer ska.
Base.d in the sunny Australian West Coast capital of Perth, the band consists of five of that city's most hardened and spirited musicians originally brought together by a love of reggae, the beach, booze, high cholesterol and a laugh way back in 2005.
The Sunshine Brothers will play just about anywhere and you may have seen them at one of their legendary headline shows or sharing the stage with international artists such as Lily Allen, Roni Size, Fat Freddys Drop, Cat Empire, Salmonella Dub, Xavier Rudd, Beastie Boys, Ernest Ranglin, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Soul Jazz Sound System, Beautiful Girls, Arrested Development, Roots Manuva, Cornerstone Roots, Gomez, Amp Fiddler and more.
You may also have seen them at festivals like Good Vibrations, Adelaide Festival, Perth International Arts Festival, Island Vibe Festival (Stradbroke Island), Cairns Reggae Festival, Wave Rock Weekender, Southern Arts and Soul Festival, Spring Fever, Soundsplash NZ, WOMUBU Festival Busselton, Wignalls and Margaret River Reggae Festival.
They've toured all over Australia and also to NZ, UK and USA with shows in Byron Bay, Perth, Sydney, Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne, Adelaide, London, Oxford, Brighton, New York, Raglan, Bunbury, Hyden, Margaret River, Dunsborough, Denmark, Yallingup, Albany, Broome, Rottnest Island, Wollongong, Stradbroke Island and more.
2010 has seen the Sunshine Brothers play sporadic shows all over the country and regular shows in Perth throughout winter.
October the band traveled to Spain to record their Third album 'Red Alert' and tour the country playing 12 shows from the deep south to the northern regions of the country. . This will follow up from 'Rebel Yellow' (2005) recorded on the beach in Fremantle Australia and 'Greenpoint' (2008) recorded at Daptone Studio Brooklyn USA.
Dub/reggae is the last form of rebel music standing and the Brothers play it with pride, power, authenticity and smiles and incredibly appealing but almost uncomfortable honesty.
From deeply atmospheric live dub-outs to dancefloor shaking ska moments a night out with the Brothers is indeed a night out.
