Orchestre Dobbri (Saxophon-Orchester Dobbri dir. by Otto Dobrindt) – Dans l’Express (Im Expresszug) One-Step, Parlophone c. 1925 (Recorded in Germany; French pressing)

NOTE: Otto DOBRINDT (b.1886 in Henkendorf / West Prussia – d.1963 in Berlin) was a German orchestral director. Dobrindt started with the record company Carl Lindström AG in Berlin, whose chief recording manager he became. In the mid-1920s he formed his own studio dance band to record with the Carl Lindström labels (Beka, Parlophon, Odeon, Gloria) under various pseudonyms (including Saxophone Orchestra Dobbri, Odeon Dance Orchestra, Wiener Bohème Orchestra, Dobbri, Robert Renard, Eddie Saxon, Frank Sandler, Eric Harden). During the Weimar Republic he waxed mostly popular dance hits and also some light classical music. In the Third Reich, he was still a prosperous musician, accompanying many UFA stars on recordings, for example Lilian Harvey, Willy Fritsch, Zarah Leander and Hans Albers. In 1935 Dobrindt took over as head of the entertainment orchestra at the German main radio broadcast Deutschladsender. He conducted numerous concertos with the party badge of the NSDAP. After 1945, when the Berlin Wall was constructed, Otto Dobrindt stayed in the eastern part of the city and continued his successful career under the communist regime. He conducted various orchestras in GDR, including Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra and DEFA Symphony Orchestra.

The 1920s Beka and Parlophon recordings by the Saxophon-Orchester Dobbri are highly valued by the lovers of the dance music of the Weimar Republic, because of really hot arrangements, well-reflecting the fierce atmosphere of a nightlife in German cities in those years.
