About This Release:

The Formula is a four-track EP of music written and composed by young Italian producer and multi-instrumentalist Fabrizio 'B.Kun' Pollice with drums by Ed 'HED' Amati. Together these two form Beat Inc., a project which was first introduced as part of Original Cultures' 2011 production The Formula - from which the EP take its name. B.Kun originally wrote most of the music on the EP for the show which was performed live with HED on drums, Mannaman on bass, Danilo Mineo on percussion and Architeq (UK) as dubmaster.
Following the success of the event, Original Cultures have curated four tracks for the EP which were re-recorded in B.Kun's studio. Everything you hear on this EP has been played live - absolutely no computers. The music on The Formula ranges from club friendly hip hop and dubstep tinged with electro on Black Tea Morning and Nightfall to smoked out dub vibes on Just Remember and nostalgic blues on Primitive Fire.
Remixes were also commissioned from close friends and collaborators of the project including Japan's Daisuke Tanabe, London's Om Unit (who was among the first artists to take parts in Original Cultures in 2009) and Brussels' Squeaky Lobster. Each delivers a unique take on the originals: Daisuke and Squeaky Lobster send Black Tea Morning into more abstract hip hop realms while Om Unit shows why he is one of 2012's most in demand artists by outdubbing Just Remember into a low-slung riddim with chest-pounding sub aquatic bass that has already been tested on Fabric's mighty room 2 system to great effect.

Reviews for This Release:

"Primitive fire, is some serious fire! Reminds me of that low slung, blues funk of early Funkadelic." - Wrongtom (Ninja Tune / Tru Thoughts)

"Dope dubby smokey vibes, real nice stuff throughout." - Kelpe (DC Recordings / Project M)

"A great foray into live beats. Om Unit works his usual bottom-heavy magic on the refix." - Mr Beatnick (DBA / RBMA)

"Feeling these a lot. The mix of real instrumentation and electronica is great. Remixes are great too." - Cardopusher (Iberian Recs / Tigerbeat6)

"Highly enjoyable, totally vibing off Primitive Fire." - Jameszoo (Kindred Spirits)

"Squeaky Lobster remix off the bat!" - BD1982 (Seclusiasis / Diskotopia)

"This EP is great, all remixes are really strong and I especially love the Squeaky Lobster one." - Yosi Horikawa (First Word / RBMA)

"it's a nice mixture of roots music twisted into modern beats! Primitive Fire, Black Tea Morning, Just Remember + the remixes are my joints!" - Sauce81 (Cosmopolyphonic / RBMA JP)

"Super dope!" - Kidkanevil (First Word / RBMA)

"This release from the Original Cultures camp has a real timeless feel. There is a very consistent vibe that I can really appreciate. Often times, the end product in collaborations between various artists can seem a bit lackluster. Not here. Different musical styles mend beautifully. Loving" - Sweatson Klank (Dublab / Alpha Pup)
