Spires That In The Sunset Rise @ Tusk Festival 2014 - Video

DESCRIPTION:
Stumbling across a reference to Jack Rose describing Spires That In The Sunset Rise as a female Sun City Girls led to our first investigations of their music and we instantly fell into the spell of companion LPs Ancient Patience Wills It Again Parts 1 & 2. Though Rose is revered ‘round these parts, we find their sound to be more akin to a lo-fi take on Espers, though that’s way too narrow a reference as they can summon the threat of Comus and the ethereal mass of Natural Snow Buildings in full flight, before diverting down some voice and synth alleyway that sounds like Caroliner covering Meredith Monk.

Hailing from Wisconsin, the band have been through various combinations but for the past few years have been the duo of longtime members Kathleen Baird and Taralie Peterson and its clear from their sound they’ve discovered their own imaginary planet on which they have dug a song mine. It’s a cliché to say that something makes you lose all sense of time but that happens repeatedly when we listen to Spires That In The Sunset Rise.
