Three Way Boogie - Spade Cooley & His Orchestra. Columbia 78 rpm 37058. 1947. Featuring Spade - Fiddle, Johnny Weiss - Guitar, Joaquin Murphey - Steele, Geaorge Bambi - Accordian + unknown piano. Spade, named for his card skills, born Oklahoma 17th Dec 1910 as Donnell Clyde Cooley. His peak was from 1943 to 1947 when his band wiped Bob Wills' at battles of the bands on Santa Monica & Venice Piers in LA. Sadly he had a hot temper & lost vocalist Tex Williams & most his best band. He hosted LA TV's Hoffman Hayride from '49 - '56. Then in '61 he beat his wife, Ella Mae to death & was lucky to only get jail. In '69 he got release on licence to play for local Deputy Sheriffs & died of heart attack backstage after the show.
