The band Sonic Lake was created in November 2006 by two musicians from Poznan, Julia Schiffter and Michal Pietrzak.
Julia – a singer, semi-finalist of the German edition of "Idol", a popular TV show. She also performed in "Dubidu" (TVP2) as a session singer in all episodes. Her voice appeared in recordings of such Polish stars as Norbi, Leszcze or Groove Coctail.
Michal Pietrzak – a guitar player, producer, arranger and composer. He cooperated with multiple Polish bands, singers, composers or took part in grand projects, among which are G.Bregovic, Gorny Orchester, Young Band, M.Ostrowska, LO27, M.Moleda, Creo, K.Antkowiak. He also made successful appearances in various TV shows: "Idol", "Dubidu" (TVP2), "Co nam w duszy gra", "Imiennik dwojki".
These two were soon accompanied by Jacek Winkiel (piano, keys), who brought in many compositions, arrangements and interesting ideas, enlarging existing material. First songs came to life in a small basement which was adapted as a recording studio. Many musicians, friends passed through this place, leaving their traces in various recordings. In the meantime the band was joined by Szymon Guzowski (bass), Marcin Gorny (keys) and Grzegorz Siek (drums).
Beginning 2008, Sonic Lake moved to a freshly opened studio "Splendor i Slawa" (Splendor and Fame). Good conditions and equipment available there allowed more effective and professional work. The whole band started official rehearsals along with the new background vocal team, Kasia Roscinska and Michalina Janicka.
After two months of hard work it was high time to test the band. The premiere concert took place in a renowned Poznan club, Blue Note, on 25th May 2008. Sonic Lake proved very successful completely electrifying the audience. Rumor has it, some viewers remember that magic evening even today!
The music made by Sonic Lake is joyful, natural and carries positive emotions. It is a combination of such genres as pop, funk, soul and rock, skillfully mixed into a unified and complete whole. Original compositions and arrangements and, above all, the uniquely captivating voice of the singer – these are the attributes of Sonic Lake. The band proves phenomenal both at club concerts and huge open-air events. Julia perfectly catches good vibes with the audience, evoking enthusiasm and appreciation.
One of the greatest supporters of Sonic Lake is Julia's sister, Karolina Schiffter. She is the author of most of the lyrics. Other texts were written by Julia herself and Janusz Onufrowicz.
Though relatively young, the band can celebrate a handful of achievements. They won the main prize in Radio "Merkury" contest "Otwieramy Studio". Owing to this, the song "Happy People" became the summer hit of the station in 2007. The song is also popular and often aired on local and foreign stations, such as "Radio Orla" in London or "Radio Rytm" in New York. In 2008 Sonic Lake made it to the qualifying selection of the national "Debiuty" contest, organized within Opole Festival. In the same year the song "Powiedz to" got through to the close final of the "Przebojem na antene" contest, which was organized by "Polskie Radio". In 2009 Sonic Lake performed at XVII Final of WOSP, which won them great interest of local public and media. On 29th April 2009 the band won "My enterprise - the Band" contest whose final concert took place in Warsaw club Proxima. A month later they performed at a famous student festival "Juwenalia" alongside such Polish stars as Strachy na lachy, Afromental, Waglewski-Fisz-Emade i Acid Drinkers.
Sonic Lake has over 20 original compositions successfully performed at various concerts. Half of this material is already recorded and made ready to be released.
