It's been a strange journey, but we are glad to be back at it! Thank you for letting us decompress for 3 years.

Golden Smoke was formed in early 2007 by Chris Laramee, Chad Munson, Terry Mattson and Simon Tesfay. The band was formed from the delay trails left behind by Chris, Chad and Simon's band Sunndown and Terry and Chris' partnership in the short lived band Slow Thrills. The band spent the spring and summer writing and playing around their home town, sharing the stage with notable acts such as Ladyhawk, Pride Tiger and having the honer of backing up former Can vocalist/music legend Damo Suzuki.

In late August 2007 the band recorded their self titled release in a tiny studio located above Amigos with the skillful hand of Josh Palmer behind the desk. The album was rushed, recorded, mixed and mastered in 2-12 hour sessions. The album was released in December 2007 by Somnambulist Sound System. This release marked the end of the first phase of Golden Smoke with the announcement that the CD release show would be Simon Tesfay's final performance with the band. Unsure of what the band was going to do, they were forced to cancel their winter 2008 western tour.

Rather than facing the chore of finding a new drummer Terry decided to take over the role of drummer in the band and former band mate and long time friend Charles Lemire joined on bass. The band spent the better part of the next year playing shows around Saskatchewan and working on new material.

After a string of shows with Quest for Fire the band entered the studio with S.J. Kardash to record their second record "Resurrection City" in late 2008. The recording process was much more labor intensive and took 2 months to complete. Unfortunately things were beginning to come apart and the close of 2008 and the band decided to call it quits.

Early 2009 "Resurrection City" was self released in a limited run of 100. All of the members focused on other projects for 2009 - 2010. Terry focusing on his solo 4 track recording and painting. Charles rejoined his former Vicious Crystals band mates on drum in The Foggy Notions and Friends Electric. Chris formed tranced out doom titans Shooting Guns while Chad went on to form the indie rock outfit The Moas and the Am Rep infused Grey Light District.

In late summer 2011 the band was asked to reform to play a CFCR benefit. As the band started to rehearse things started to fall back into place, the energy and momentum was back... Golden Smoke is back.
