Sole Provider

Chicago-born, northwest based MC, Sole Provider, believes versatility his strongest trait. The child of military parents, he was forced to become familiar with new settings as frequent as every school year while growing up. His parents encouraged him to read and write short stories as a youth which eventually led him to writing songs influenced by science-fiction and history. Coming of age in the renaissance 90's also led his songwriting to be influenced by KRS-ONE, Notorious BIG, Organized Confusion, Nas, Heiroglyphics, and Wu-Tang Clan. In high-school he co-founded the group Altered States of Conciousness with childhood friends Naultilus, Oddio, and DJ Wels, releasing their debut album Damage Assessment in 2004. This led to opportunities opening for nationally acclaimed acts such as Blackalicious and Kool Keith, as well as local Portland artist Mic Crenshaw, and song placements on The Bus Project (2005). In 2007, after making a name for himself in Portland and Seattle with appearances in Hip Hop Elements and Brainstorm Battles, the MC became a father establishing new focus and motive for his music. Founding independent label North Next Entertainment in 2009, and releasing DJ Wel's 95x30 Mixtape as well as the Weapon X (EP) both in 2010, Sole Provider remains diligent in his pursuit to establish himself as a staple in hip-hop utilizing his ability to rhyme over any style of music and his boundless dedication to upholding the integrity of the culture.
