Smallfish Records was established in the heart of the east end of London on January 9th 2000 as an outlet for leftfield and electronic music.



For 6 years Smallfish served the music buying community both in the shop itself and via its worldwide mailorder service.



In the past Smallfish hosted in-store performances from Isan, Fourtet, Hood, Inch-Time, Fortdax, Recon, Sebastien Roux, Si-cut.db, DJ Vadim, Stafraenn Hakon, Benge, Tigrics, Robert Jesse & Simon Lord, Murcof, Plaid, Kid606, Antenna Farm, Nubian Mindz, Tape, Animal Collective, Machine Drum, Dat Politics, Zapruda Trio, Posthuman, Remote_ and many more.



The physical shop at 329 Old Street closed down in July 2006 so that we could concentrate on offering a more comprehensive online service.



With a much needed upgrade to functionality, a more minimal, stripped-down design ethic and a host of new features, we're determined to keep Smallfish your one-stop online shop for a wide range of independent electronic music.



Smallfish's 3" CD label was launched in 2006 and features a catalogue of varied, exciting and engaging electronic music from a host of artists. Look out for plenty of new releases in 2009.



I'm always interested in hearing new music from artists but I have to point out that due to the time constraints involved in running Smallfish singlehanded I won't be able to reply to most submissions. I'm sent a lot of inappropriate music ranging from 4-piece indie rock right through to banging techno / trance none of which is ever likely to be released on Smallfish. Please consider before sending anything whether or not your music sits happily with the established sound of the label - thank you!



[UPDATE] I'm repeatedly being sent inappropriate music. Smallfish is an ELECTRONIC / AMBIENT MUSIC SPECIALIST. Please stop sending me rock and indie music as well as club techno and trance. I simply won't respond if you do as you clearly have no idea of the ethos behind Smallfish. Thanks.



Please also take note that if you send Smallfish a comment that advertises your release being available via various different music retailers I will immediately deny it and remove you from the friends list. There's blanket comment sending and then there's just plain insulting. Smallfish sells physical product and if you don't know or care then I don't care either. Smallfish is a store, not just a label. Just to let you know.
