Sludgeworth

"Back in 1989, in between the first and second incarnations of Screeching Weasel, bassist Dan Schafer and then-drummer Brian Vermin formed Sludgeworth, which then proceeded for a couple of years to virtually rule the Chicago scene. They eventually foundered on the rocks of "artistic differences" and were supplanted by a reborn Screeching Weasel and a host of other Chicago bands, but now the shrouds of the past have lifted to reveal this near-perfect nugget of classic punk rock."

"Spiraling guitars build thick layers of loud, melodic noise. Each chord builds upon the previous one until it's like a blanket of fresh snow, covering everything in sight. Vocals are a brisk wind, kicking up the sound and pushing it along. Sludgeworth captured the late '80s Chicago Punk sound perfectly."
