The singer/narrator in Hey, Sleepyhead is the Dormouse, who is a famous character known for being half-asleep, in Alice in Wonderland. The song is about the comforts of an escape from reality in sleep. The lover in Hey, Sleepyhead is elusive when awake, outside of the dream state and only in sleep are the lovers united and therefore, Hey Sleepyhead is a direct response to the lament of the Dormouse.
