Bajanski Bal live - Video

DESCRIPTION:
"Rotrausch" - Festival of the Cultures, Basel 9/8/2007 Bajanski Bal is a new star on the firmament of the eastern european ethno-pop scene. It could well be
expected that some of the thousands of emigrée- musicians who fled the economic misery (und cultural depression) of the post-soviet era would eventually meet up in western Europe and start to play music which takes them back to their roots. That's how Bajanski Bal was born. A charismatic russian vocalist out of the Red Army Choir and the Wolgograd Opera, a russian-ukrainian accordion virtuoso and a polish-ukrainian guitarrist who, after many more or less sober impromptu performances at various slavic parties, finally decided to "get serious about it" and complete the line-up. A swedish tuba-torturer and a drummer of badly definable eastern roots were found and tested for rhythmic and tonal performance under difficult conditions (i.e.: steamy dance floors and low blood levels in the vodka system).

Since 2006 they tour Switzerland and Germany, bewitching the audiences with a mix of heart-rending slavic melancholy and foot-stomping dance numbers that they variously describe as "russki romance", "ukrainski speedfolk" and "polski punk". And they turn every club floor into a throbbing mass of happy faces, bouncing bodies and kicking knees.
