81/100

Jake: 80/100

Tom: 82/100

Verdict: Strong indie rock with a huge guitar presence; check this one out.

Overview: Talk about a band obsessed with guitars. Sky Larkin are riffing it up throughout the entirety of their third record, Motto. This is a pristinely polished indie rocker that focuses just as much on songwriting as sound presentation. Motto may be one of the grittiest, grindiest yet cleanest sounding albums we've ever heard. That mixture of songwriting and production is rare nowadays. Vocalist Katie Harkin has an alarming powerful yet sickly cool voice reminiscent of The Joy Formidable, but her quality vocal parts are what set her apart. Sky Larkin do a great job of focusing on providing focused, catchy melodies throughout this record. While it starts a little slow and lacks a tad bit of diversity, Motto accomplishes much, and is definitely worth a few listens.
