English lyrics: (With some explanations)
It's December 11th.
and time to fill
every window
with shoes (Kids in Iceland put a shoe in there window and the Yule Lads give them small gifts if they are nice. Santa Claus never shows up, probably do to the stiff competition)
Now Lads, pay close attention
Either 9 up on a hill ( it seams that there were only 9 of the lads back in the day but in recent times they are 13)
or 13 on a chair ( there is some debates about the lyrics in an old carol, chair or hill!!)
I don't care
I'm gonna go late to bed
Even though tomorrow is school-day
I'm not doing my homework
and I'll punk-up my Christmas dress
that mom bought in America
Chorus:
I'm going to be naughty before Christmas
I know that the Yule Lads see everything
I want potatoes in my shoe (that is what you get when your naughty)
and then I'll send them to the hungry kids
that I saw on the news
look lads,
You're not doing enough charity work.
I mean, why don't you just give everybody potatoes in there shoes
and then no one will be hungry over the holidays.
Bridge:
But on Christmas Day it became clear
that Santa is the dude
So even though I was naughty before Christmas
Santa and the Lads see everything
There were apples in all my shoes
enough to feed an army
of kids
believe me
Clementines under every bed
Boots full of strawberries
Bananas on every table
and the bathtub full of nuts
