Continuing Motech's path in 2014 of bringing new artists into the camp alongside work from the label's founder, DJ 3000, we now turn to a new EP by Siggatunez with his four-tracker, 'In My Head'.

Siggatunez aka Siggi Tunezia (Siggi Tunezia) was born in East Germany but has lived in Frankfurt, Wales (UK) and Spain, and now resides in Berlin. But this nomadic lifestyle has always been underpinned by one static foundation - his passion for music. Early influences came from his parents who owned a wide choice of Funk and Soul records, while his father also played in a Jazz band. In fact, Funk and Soul still play an important role in his understanding of music and it's evident when you hear his tracks.

The young Siggi also learned the piano, studying it for 8 years, until later in 2004 he began producing his own music. At the time his options were limited and so his output was sparse, but with a love of mid-90s Hip Hop, he enjoyed "screwing with beats", as he puts it. Having moved to Frankfurt at the age of 18, he was introduced to the electronic music scene and still maintains a relationship with the city. Together with his DJ colleague, Le Rubrique, he founded the Sucio party collective, which still organises events there and in January of this year they also brought the vibe to Berlin. Around the same time Siggi celebrated the third release on his own label, Tieffrequent and has previously released on Lagaffe Tales and Houseworx.

Opening with the title track, 'In My Head' it's clear that Siggatunez is no longer just "screwing with beats" but truly understands the complexity of good production, with its layered percussive sound and hefty dose of funk and groove. 'Run' comes next and keeps up the tough House party feel with a bumping beat and cut up vocal stab. 'Offenbach Bay Area' brings added emotion with some soulful, sweeping synth work and bongo-beat, before the deeper 'Big Fish' closes proceedings on this quality EP.
