DESCRIPTION:
5th Graders working on layering multiple accompaniment parts together for the melody to "Captain, Go Sidetrack Your Train." We began this lesson as a music literacy review for reading music on soprano recorder and sight singing with solfege, analyzing patterns and phrases in melodies, and continued to explore other musical possibilities with percussion instruments (cabasa) as a train engine sound, metallophones as train whistles, and various other ostinati. Students rotated through all of the instrument parts so they could experience different aspects of the music within the whole ensemble. This video features Ms. Miller's 5th grade class.
