XVI FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE FOLCLORE - Portel, Agosto 2013.

THE FOLKLORIC ENSEMBLE "TRANSILVANIA"
CLUJ-NAPOCA -- ROMANIA

The CLUJ-NAPOCA town situated in the middle part of TRANSILVANIA county at the
feet of the western CARPATHIANS mountains and bathed by the clear waters of the
SOMES river has become today, a strong cultural, university, scientific and
economic center of ROMANIA.

Ancient DACO-ROMAN settlement known under the name of NAPOCA, it has
later became CLUJ. The town has not long ago reached the beautiful age of 2000
years.

In this town the well-known "TRANSILVANIA" FOLKLORIC ENSEMBLE develops its
activity. The ensemble it's formed by gifted performers. They are the children
of workers and technicians from SC. REMARUL "16 FEBRUARIE" SA. Cluj-Napoca, who
in their spare time dedicate themselves to popular song and dance which they can
perform masterfully and with genuineness.

Not long ago the parents of this children was actives members of this
ensemble, now it's the time for young generation to continue further on what
their parents has started some years ago. As a result of its
artistic activity and value, the "TRANSILVANIA" FOLKLORIC ENSEMBLE has obtained
a well-deserved fame at the national and international festivals where they has
been won a lot of prizes and several titles of laureate.

The ENSEMBLE has rich and various repertoires of popular songs and
dances having origin in different Romanian folklore regions. Thus the
traditions, the vitality and the creative capacity of the Romanian people are
developed grace to the huge artistic force aiming the perpetuating and
transmitting the folklore from one generation to another.

In achieving the performance we may notice the harmonious connection of music
and dance, the sobriety and chromatic refinement of the popular costumes
specific for each folkloric region.

The series of dance from the SOMES VALLEY expresses wonderfully the
characteristics features inherited from the DACIANS and ROMANS who lived in this
part of TRANSILVANIA.

From OLTENIA, a geographic and folkloric region in the southwest of
ROMANIA, we have chosen the famous dance "CALUSARII". This dance is a
piece of bravery, his origin is the same with the origins of ROMANIAN
people and which reflects by the dynamism of movements and rhythms, the nature,
temperament and character of the inhabitants of this region. The dances from
OLTENIA, characteristic for the villages in the DANUBE PLAIN, present a great
variety of steps that imply a special virtuosity in performance.
