Finbar Dwyer's Set - Hughie Shortie's Reel by Johnnie Wilmot taught to Shona by Buddy McMaster; Miss Shepherd's by J. S. Skinner a popular Scottish session tune and Finbar Dwyer's Fancy, sometimes known as the Kyleback Rambler, written by Irish accordionist Finbar Dwyer. Recorded by Shaw TV for the show Urban Rush in 2005.
Born on the Island of Jersey in the English Channel, Shona moved to Vancouver, Canada at age nine. Raised by a mother from the East coast of Scotland, Shona has deep roots in the musical traditions of Scotland, Ireland and Cape Breton Island.
In 1995, Shona was chosen to join the Canadian Celtic-pop group, The Paperboys with whom she toured extensively throughout North America for over 2 years. In 1997, Shona recorded the album "Molinos" with The Paperboys, which won the Canadian Juno Award in 1998 for The Best Roots and Traditional Album -- Group category.
In 1998/99, Shona performed with "Micheal Flatley's Lord of the Dance" in Las Vegas and Orlando. She has also performed and recorded with: 5x World Champions -- SFU Scottish Pipe Band, English songsmith -- Tim Readman, West African folk musician -- Alpha YaYa Dialo, Irish party bands -- The Town Pants and The Pat Chessel Band, and Celtic Folk band -- Mad Pudding.
Shona has taught fiddle music for over 17 years and is the former director and founder of the Vancouver Scottish Fiddle Club which ran successfully for 6 years. In 2002 -- 2007, Shona was invited to teach at the Coast Strings Fiddle School in British Columbia and the Rocky Mountain Fiddle Camp in Colorado. At these schools she was on staff with some of the best fiddlers in the world.
Shona released her debut solo recording, "Destination Grouville" in March 2005. On the recording Shona is accompanied by several accomplished musicians including Tim Readman (Guitar / Vocals), Keona Mundy (Flute) and the Mad Pudding Rhythm Section (Allan Dionne on percussion and Boris Favre on electric bass). Shona now performs with Tim, Boris and Allan in The Shona Le Mottee Band.Shona and Tim have been performing together in the band and as a duo for over 10 years. Audiences enjoy Tim's hilarious patter between songs, and find an evening in his company to be entertaining from start to finish. His rhythm guitar playing is a perfect accompaniment to Shona's fine fiddling style. Together they delight audiences everywhere they play.
