Shipwreck Karpathos is an instrumental post-rock band from Indianapolis, IN

inspired by the likes of Russian Circles, Explosions in the Sky, and MONO, mixed with elements of post-hardcore bands like Refused, Envy, and Thursday, and even pulling in influence from minimalists like Philip Glass and Glenn Branca.

The music is an ever changing landscape of small ideas, lush tones, and slow, quiet builds, swelling into enormous, visceral, all encompassing walls of sound.

Formed in 2010 in the back room of a tiny record store with no real idea of what we were doing, this band has grown and evolved into something that we never expected. After the release of our first EP we took an extended hiatus and spent the time writing, planning, and growing. Now we are back at it with new music and a clear idea of exactly what we want to do.

The goal of this project is to produce a full length album, and an accompanying hour long animated film, both titled "Bring Down the Sky."

For the last four years we have poured all our of love into developing what has become the biggest and most exciting project any of us have ever taken on, and we want you to be a part of it. We don't want to just be another band that goes out, plays a few songs, and goes home. We want our live show to be an experience, something that people will walk away from and remember long after. In trying to create that experience we've written a story to use as a backdrop to our music, and eventually our live show. Inspired by all of our favorite sci-fi movies, comic books, and video games, "Bring Down the Sky" is a story set in a massive city called Circle City, and revolves around two characters known only as The Pilot, and Virgil. It's all about them returning home to find it destroyed, and how they deal with the fallout of that destruction. It has robots, giant flying machines, and huge cityscapes sprouting out of a post apocalyptic wasteland.

Once the film is done we will have it projected behind us during our live show. This is something that we have wanted to do since the start of this band, and coming up with the concept, writing this music and figuring out each part of the story that goes with it has been the most rewarding experience of our collective careers. It has been 100% a labor of love for everyone involved, and with your help we can finally make it a reality.

Money pledged will go to the following:

Studio time - First and most importantly is the album. This project wouldn't exist if not for the hard work we have put into writing this. We want to make sure that the recordings are perfect.

Illustration/Animation - 100% of the art for the film is hand drawn. That's a crazy lot of hours that are going to go into the first step alone of making a cartoon. The animation process is just as, if not more labor intensive. That means it takes a lot of time, which means it takes money.

CD/DVD Production - The live show is awesome, but you want something you can hold in your hand at the end of this, and we want to give that to you. Both will be pressed and packaged in full color eco-wallets.

Creating backer rewards/Kickstarter fees - A small percentage of what we make goes to Kickstarter, and to creating all of your rewards.

AND DON'T FORGET STRETCH GOALS:

If we go over our goal then we start doing more cool things.

$8,500 - the DVD gets bonus features: Art galleries, live video, maybe even some commentaries from the band and artists involved.

$9,000 - We will upgrade to a short run Bluray option for backers only.

$9,500 - We will produce an art book full of sketches, drawings, and paintings from the production of the film. We will also bring in other artist to contribute to this.

We are all so in love with this idea. We have put so much work over the years into this and want so badly to see it come to fruition, and we cannot do it without your help. If you decide to back this project that obviously means you want to see it succeed, so remember the best way to make that happen is to spread the word. So share the link to this page and tell all of your friends! Thank you for watching. Thank you for reading. Thank you for listening.
