PRESENTED BY TOM MILLET

Hailing from the small Northern Irish village of Aghagallon, population 824, alt-folk troubadour Ciaran Lavery has found a way to channel the quiet despair of isolation into timeless songs of beauty and heartache on his celebrated debut full-length album Not Nearly Dark. Following the critical success of the You Will Be a Stranger Now and The Maker of Things EPs, the former Captain Kennedy frontman has come into his own as a solo artist, finding a nice somewhere between the desperate longing of Bon Iver, the ruggedness of Tom Waits and the wanderlust of Ray Lamontagne. Lavery has also recently released a download only covers EP 'Other People Wrote These' to critical acclaim

Reviews

"Ciaran Lavery speaks many languages. He is fluent in heartache and lonesome. He can do pleading and empathy and even a smattering of hopeful. All of this is conducted in the most remarkable voice. It comes from the deeps of his soul and it reaches yours without much ceremony"Stuart Bailie, BBC

"As young, naturally gifted, not to mention hugely promising Northern Irish singer-songwriters go, Ciaran Lavery sits comfortably, ever so modestly, with the very best" Alternative Ulster

"Mature and affecting, Not Nearly Dark is a seriously fine record that's proud to show off its bruises and not afraid to wander into some dark corners when the mood takes it" Ralph McLean, Culture NI

"This is fabulously atmospheric stuff. Ciaran Lavery has come up with a highly accomplished debut LP - and hopefully the first of many more to come" Irish News

"Ciaran Lavery is an artist who clearly lives and breathes his craft" The Thin Air
