No, no, ignore the lines about mothballs comin' outta Cal's ass or whatever. Is that a cowbell?

...that's a cowbell. Huh. Cal-bell. Okay.

Now that we've got that established, let's move onto what this is. This is Cal and The Calories, a St. Louis punk group that I'm sure many of you are already familiar with. Initially put together by Martin Meyer A.K.A. Lumpy back in 2013, Cal and The Cruisers has since blossomed into a quirky sister-project to Lumpy and The Dumpers. Essentially serving a poppier counterpart with their earlier releases, this group has gradually evolved into grungier, more rock-like sounds. And evidently evolved to use a cowbell in this 2015 EP cassette. I know, I'm a bit too adamant about that damn cowbell. The thing is, I'm not so surprised by its presence, but more by the fact that it actually works. Anyways, despite the shift, "Outta My Way" is still a nice callback to their poppy n' spriteful beginnings. I dig this EP a ton, and shows some serious promise as to what Cally and The Calories have in store for us in the future.
