A self-described "Boogie Woogie Piano Band," the Screaming J's hail from the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina, where their influences range from New Orleans honky-tonk to bluegrass, gospel and ragtime.

Piano player and band leader Jake Hollifield writes the songs, with backup by music veterans Jonathan "JP" Hess on stand-up bass and Mike Gray on drums. Interestingly, Mike plays drums with a pair of chopsticks.

The band is currently touring the Southeastern U.S., and was toting the beat-up acoustic piano they haul up and down stairs and sometimes onto roof-tops so Jake can bang out his captivating boogie-woogie rag when this video was recorded for Balcony TV Miami. Their sets mix original songs with old standards they retro-fit to their own personalities, and they aren't shy about sharing some strongly-worded political views in both song and narrative. It's always a great show, people of all ages get up to dance and lots of folks buy CDs to take home and share with friends.
