************PLEASE NOTE: WE ARE NOT THE BLACK METAL BAND OF THE NAME GOLGOTHA!!!!!! ****NOTE TWO: We do NOT add people with totalitarian symbols or images in their profiles, be they left- or right-wing!*******:Golgatha: was founded in 2004 as a one-man-soundart-project. The result of these early experiments was the CD-r release 'Waste Land' (2005). After a time of restructuring the guitarist S. Marleni added his gifts to the project and the band :Golgatha: was finally formed. With Marleni the neofolk-aspect transformed the darkambient strctures in something new, more ritual, even culminating in songs like 'Icarus' and 'Final Age of Heroism' on the first official CD 'Kydos' (Athanor 2005). Former Death in June-member Patrick Leagas had two brilliant guest appearances on this recording. As a companion piece to 'Kydos' the German magazine :Ikonen: published the MCD 'Icarus e.p.', that again mixed folksongs with darkambient structures, this time remixed by Herbst9.
In March 2006 :Golgatha: contributed an CD-exclusive bonus-track to the instrumental-soundtrack of SAW 2 (Trisol 2006) by Charlie Clouser (Nine Inch Nails).
2006 will see the next step of :Golgatha:'s oeuvre with the CD 'Seven Pillars' (Athanor), an epic comment on the myth of Thomas Edward Lawrence. Darkambient, pounding Ritualdrums, oriental influences, folkaccents and nihilistic vocals will be combined to strong sensual effect.
For 2007 another ritual-project is in the making: 'Tales of Transgression and Sacrifice' will present ritual tunes along with dark erotic photographies of the young German photographer Birthe Klementowski (http://www.ikonenmagazin.de/BirtheKlementowski.htm).
In 2008 :Golgatha: joined forces with the French band Dawn & Dusk Entwined and unleashed the opus magnum 'Sang Graal' (CMI). And there is more to come… 'The Horns of Joy' unfolds on the horizon. 'Rising' will show the way.
******************* Concept: Golgatha is the common name of the spot where the Christian prophet Jesus was crucified. It is interpreted by the evangelists as meaning "the place of a skull" (Mt 27:33, Mr 15:22, Joh 19:17). Its name represents in Greek letters the Aramaic word Gulgaltha, which is the Hebrew Gulgoleth meaning "a skull." Therefore the name Golgatha represents the skull-mountain, looking like a skull and bearing the bones of the crucified According to Origenes the skull of Adam is buried there. Golgatha-mountain is located at the northern side of Jerusalem and became a kind of symbolic place for the ongoing conflict between the source of western religion on the one hand and oriental belief on the other. It can be seen as a representative for the current ideological and religious conflict happening between east and west. The music of :Golgatha: appears to be a careful reflection of this seemingly eternal conflict on a mythical as well as concrete level yet without taking one of these sides. There has to be another way of dealing with humanities darkest aspects
*Note: :Golgatha: is in no way connected with any Blackmetal-bands of similar name. The [:] are part of the name and the concept. They symbolize the inner concept of the band. :Golgatha: may present a somehow pessimistic vision du monde but does not support intolerant, totalitarian as well as militaristic opinions (see statment below). We are searching for a balanced view, therefor always the whole picture should be considered - not the supposedly 'pleasing' excerpt. Deep listening is required! - Concerning the use of runes in our band logo: This logo basically means :Golgatha: and is constructed from the respective runes. This bind rune stands for the inner concept of our band and our strong emotional relation to it. We are aware of other runic symbolism used within the context of totalitarian politics. Please note that our use of runes does absolute not refer to any present day politics or the history of the 20th century. We refer to these symbols in the contexct of their ancient and sacred sources.
