Welcome back ToneReport. Today, we’re plugging into the Console, by Elta Music. The Console is a forward-thinking design that gives you access to a vast library of high-quality effects that would normally occupy an entire pedalboard. An entire library of 10 cartridges is available for the Console, from reverbs and delays to ambient-centered effects and bass synthesizers. Each cartridge contains three programs that are related to the cartridge theme, and you can switch between them using a three-way toggle switch on the face of the Console. Swapping out the cartridges couldn’t be easier, simply pull one out and insert a new one, no blowing required. After inserting a new cartridge and firing up the system, each program gives you a dirty and clean mode, along with three knobs to control it. Two of the control knobs are governed by an appropriate joystick, with one control parameter running north and south and the other running east and west. The third control parameter is adjustable with the Z knob. Across all programs, the Console gives you a Blend control which governs the ratio of clean to dirty effects for as much grit as you can handle. Each Elta Console is built with ruggedness in mind and comes equipped with Cathedral and Magic cartridges for a variety of reverb and delay tones right out of the box.
