Biography
Lead by the charismatic guitarist/ vocalist Aaron Sly along with long standing drummer Matt Alston SANCTORUM burst onto the metal scene with their debut album 'The Heavens Shall Burn' in 2006 followed by the critically acclaimed 'Ashes of Redemption' in 2008. Now SANCTORUM are back with their most explosive album to date featuring two new members Al Commons and Adam Paterson on lead guitar and bass. Stronger than ever before SANCTORUM have a new fire and intensity which is apparent on the latest album titled 'Semper Fidelis' and within the band itself.
After two line up changes SANCTORUM are stronger than ever before, welcoming lead guitarist Al Commons to the fold who brings a fresh approach to metal guitar playing that is fueled by pure passion for music, and Adam Paterson on bass who's rock solid playing and vision extends far beyond his years. It's safe to say the the feeling within the band is that this is a line up that was just meant to be and that they can achieve something great.
Musically the direction of the new album is a natural progression from the bands two previous albums both of which helped shape SANCTORUM'S core sound and unique style. Wanting to expand on the ideas developed in these previous records SANCTORUM pushed the dynamics, textures and arrangements as far as they could within the feel of the song while showcasing their technical ability. With it's thundering thrash riffs on tracks such as 'Rise of the Underdog' and 'Thorn In My Side', or the big laid back grooves of 'Severed' and 'For our Sins' SANCTORUM carve their way through the listeners conscience whilst still allowing room for the more progressive and atmospheric sounds of 'Empty Glass' and 'Cast Aside'.
Co founder Matt Alston and new bassist Adam Peterson provide the rock solid rhythm section that allows co founder Aaron Sly and new guitarist Al Commons free reign to explore interesting and uncharted musical territory which brings a fresh new approach to the overall sound of the band. Keeping their integrity intact and fueling their ongoing passion for the music.
Lyrically speaking vocalist Aaron Sly drew inspiration from personal relationships and life experiences that have come from SANCTORUM'S seven year strong journey so far. A journey that has seen highs and lows yet remains true to the bands musical path and vision which they collectively share under their new metal family motto and band moniker.
The production of this record favors a more live, raw and analog approach to the recordings but still retaining the clarity and sheer size of sound that SANCTORUM have became known for both on record and during their live performances. Mixed by Danny B of the infamous thrash band Criminal at HVR Studios, the new album was recorded and mastered at Long Track Studios close to their hometown of Colchester in Essex and co produced by SANCTORUM and Nathan Wacey. The partnership brought a new creative direction and musical dynamic to the recording sessions which helped to achieve the old school feel the band were looking for.
'Semper Fidelis' is 13 tracks of roaring, in your face, pure British molten metal at its finest. From the intensity and honesty of the vocals and lyrics to the brutality of the music SANCTORUM have created their most cathartic and comprehensive work to date. Show casing a deadly combination of metal fury and musicianship that is sure to make a powerful impression on it's listeners.
