Written by Pete Anders and Vini Poncia. Arranged by Meco Monardo and produced by Rod McBrien.
Led by Long Island, NY, native, Rod McBrien, Salt Water Taffy released their first 45 on Buddah in 1968, “Finders Keepers”. The lead singer was Tommy West, later of Cashman-Pistilli-West but he was not a permanent member of Salt Water Taffy.
A self-titled album followed, featuring a track written by Pete Anders and Vini Poncia, “Whence I Make thee Mine”. On moving to United Artists, the group picked another Anders-Poncia song, “Summertime Girl”, which had been previously released by Anders and Poncia’s group, the Tradewinds on Red Bird.
Salt Water Taffy’s “Summertime Girl” was reissued on Metromedia the following year.
Meco Monardo began issuing records as an artist in the late 70s, scoring with “Star Wars Theme / Cantina Band” in 1977.
Pete Anders and Vini Poncia were inducted into the Rhode Island Music Hall Of Fame in 2011. Details of their career can be found here:
