Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of The Move’s second single release ‘I Can Hear The Grass Grow’ here is a clip of the original promotional film that was made for broadcast on television. In March 1967 it was rather hastily filmed in the fields of Borehamwood, not far from Elstree Film Studios, and took inspiration from Lewis Carroll’s Alice In Wonderland. The song title came from the letters page of a Pop Music magazine which Robert ‘Bobby’ Davidson took photos for. Robert was also The Move’s official photographer and had spotted a letter in the magazine which wrote ‘…it’s so boring where I live (Surrey) that I can hear the grass grow’. Robert and Roy thought wow, how cool is that, what a great title.

‘I Can Hear The Grass Grow’ was released on the 31st of March 1967, and on the 12th March 1967 it peaked in the UK chart at #5, staying in the charts for ten weeks.

It was also released in at least eleven other territories; USA, Canada, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Denmark, Holland, Sweden, New Zealand, Japan & Hong Kong. In France and Portugal it was released as part of an EP.

A special 3-track 50th anniversary digital EP of rare versions is available exclusively on iTunes
