She's AMERICAS SWEETHEART...
Courtney Love and her band Hole at the 02 Academy in Glasgow on 3rd May 2010...

She may be Nobodys Daughter but she'll always be Americas Sweetheart to me..

The drugs and destruction may be showing on her whispy sallow war torn body but the flame of vitriolic rage still flickers inside, spilling out in those pivotal lyrical moments reminding you of the force majeure that drew you there in the first place.

And the Force Majeure clause?
This is not a performance constrained by set-lists, (whatever the band might have hoped for), or even a set consisting of purely Hole songs - or even whole songs for that matter - but that is the unbridled raw show that makes a night like this unique;

After a nice verbally violent version of Violet, (personal highlight), the crowd are ready to take it wherever she wants..

Each song punctuated with random thoughts which she readily shares; she did sleep with Gavin Rossdale, but it was at the beginning of his relationship with Gwen - so what's the problem? Through the haze she recounts the time she crowed surfed "all the way to the back" and not one person felt her up (she was a little more descriptive..) or tore her dress, and for that reason Glasgow will always have a special place in her heart. See - respect does go a long way.

Courtney wants to play some dirty blues.. the band will just need to learn the chords. Do we want her to play Penny Royal Tea? As amazing as it could have been, even she knows she's too fragile to try that one. She confirms the trick for hiding tears on stage - "look up at the lights". Stevie Nicks, Rolling Stones - 2 covers she readily provides. 'Don't play with me, cause you're playing with fire...' We don't doubt it.

At one point she removes her dress - well guitar in your underwear; do you get more Rock n Roll? Besides, we're all friends here.

Courtney asks if we will stay for 3 hours instead of the scheduled 2 - would we ever say no? A resounding yes of screams ring out and eco off the old Art Deco building walls. The band look uneasy and I'm sure I can hear the racing heart of a licensee somewhere contemplating the consequences of challenging Ms. Love..

Some fans get turns at helping her sing, (as she may have no voice left for London), but no-one lasts and she decides she doesn't actually care if she loses her voice.. we're keeping her steady, she loves Glasgow tonight.

Eventually the band leave the stage - Courtney says she'll play alone - the acoustic is diligently passed over. Halfway through, she hasn't the strength to keep strumming. Her guitarist comes to her rescue and helps her finish. Not the one that's only in the band cause "he's a good fuck", or the drummer that can "play well when he wants to" or the other one "that's not worth mentioning".

She concedes, and the show is over.

As she bows out we show our love and appreciation..
We then run out into the night for the trains/buses.....who are we kidding?
Emergency taxi please...
