Rough Lynx Soundsystem was founded late 2003 by Andreas and David. They had been collecting reggae/dancehall-records for a long time and had a big interest in the jamaican culture but, until now, never had a joint way of sharing it with the public. Inspired by the true heavyweights of soundbusiness they decided to start a soundsystem of their own. The name Rough Lynx was an easy choice since they wanted a name that was both powerfull and had a connection to the north, where Sweden is situated.
Rough Lynx immediatley started building their dub box with specials and exclusives from top reggae aritstes of the world.
Soon the club Knock Out was started where Rough Lynx worked both as promotors and resident sound. The club became a huge success and it had new artistes and soundsystems on the line up every time, Swedish aswell as foreign.
In Beginning of 2004 Jonas and Bjorn, also known as Kapten Rod, joined the sound.Rough Lynx was expanding and playing more and more at different clubs around the Gothenburg area. After Half a year Bjrn dropped out to consentrate on his recording career. Around this time the crew was reinforced by two new members; Ante and Olof, who before joining Lynx played a set called Northern Vibes. By now the crew was pretty much complete with versatile selectors who plays everything from rocksteady, roots, 80s digital and early 90s to the latest dancehall.
In the summer of 2005 Jonas moved to Oslo, the capitol of Norway. He was soon joined by David and the two crew members instantly began to play frequently in their new home town.
Andreas, Ante and Olof continued to carry the vibe at home as usual. Later on Jonas and David moved back home but instead Jonas took a trip down south to Malmoe for a year or so to carry the vibe and build bridges!!
In the autumn of 2006 Rough Lynx started up a local Radioshow together with Recordstore Blenda, called The Rough Lynx & Blenda Show! Playing strictly Reggae and Dancehall from all eras during 8pm - 10pm every Friday on www.k103.se!! Roough Lynx has also had nuff clubs/events over the years and played all over the Scandinavia area. They have shared stage with artists/sounds like Barrington Levy, I-Wayne, General Levy, Collie Buddz, Top Cat, Carlton Livingston, Ranking Joe, Million Stylez, Heartical Sound, Robert Lee, Civalizee Sound, Million Vibes Sound, Murray Man, Ras Shilo, Topaz Sound, Safari Sound, Axxion Pack, and many many more.
n 2007 they participated in their first soundclash, A ting called the Westcoast Soundclash. Well prepared and with a lethal dub box, they took the trophy. Next year, in 2008, they defended the title againt home turf rivals, Axxionpack.
These last years, Rough Lynx has focused mostly on promoting clubs and bringing new sounds and talents to the front aswell as putting more energy into the riddim productions. With the heart and soul in the deep crates of digital reggae from the eighties and nineties ragga, the riddims coming out from the Rough Lynx studio are rougher than rough. Inspired by producers such as Gussie Clarke, King Jammy, King Tubby, Philip Burell and many more.
Rough Lynx has big visions for the future and will
continue to cut lethal dubplates and play out as much as possible.
