DESCRIPTION:
The 'farewell' record by Rothko, Sunset To Sunrise EP, is basically one song divided into 5 parts dominated by very dark guitar riffs in a sulky background, and an ambivalent drum set.
This is a "silent song album" as I´d describe it. Fragmented moments from a nonlinear dream/nightmare world, pours down through a kindly distorted map into your ear. Dubby moments can intervene with some delay, on condition that it won't intervene too much. Ascending/descending guitar murmurs, a wisecracking bassline and a twisted drum set (hi-hats in the foreground/toms running wild) all do their own thing, and come together at some rare and perfectly imperfect moment to cherish that 'heavy' moment alone, enhancing the all over improvised feeling of the EP. Starting out of nothingness and building on to an irritable sleepwalk, this record is like listening to someone who is too wise to be shy, but then again, too wise to talk too much. Picturesque in an astonishing way.
