DESCRIPTION:
Black Session radio broadcast recording, April 25, 2011

I upped the entire 14-song DDGs 2011 Black Session to an alternate yt channel here:

"Catholicked" first appeared on the 2010 album "Blissed Out," a collection of early DDGs recordings.

CATHOLICKED (attempted lyrics transcription):
Oh, I was born into a Roman myth
Golden angels hung above my head
My salvation in a splash of water
Oh save my soul
I'm now the Father's daughter

Oh, they've got it wrong
Wish I hadn't played along

Oh, I wonder why it's every Sunday
Me & Dom smoking in their doorway
Said a verse, an act of contrition
Oh, I struck my chest in every admission

Oh, they've got it wrong
Wish I hadn't played along

Oh, Jesus died for somebody's sins
But not mine
Melting in a pot of thieves
Wild card up my sleeve
Thick heart of stone
My sins are my own

Now I'm parting my lips for a Jesus kiss
Something Latin told me this was it
Back washed mercy into a cup
Blood of the lamb
Warmed me up

Oh, they've got it wrong
Wish I hadn't played along

Oh, teenagers lined up on the alter
My sweet mother taking pictures
I lied
And I called another name
Ah, Saint Cecelia
My patron saint

Oh, they've got it wrong
Wish I hadn't played along

Oh, Jesus died for somebody's sins
But not mine
Melting in a pot of thieves
Wild card up my sleeve
Thick heart of stone
My sins are my own

I learned today Saint Cecelia mentioned in the song is Catholicism's patron saint of music.

Such good lapsed Catholic lyrics!
Knowing Dee Dee is (unlike me) a Patti Smith fan,
I thought she'd borrowed from Patti just the line "Jesus died for somebody's sins but not mine." But on checking lyrics Patti wrote & added at the beginning of her 1975 cover of the song "Gloria," it turns out Dee Dee derived a bunch lines here from Patti. Here are Patti's similar lines:
"Jesus died for somebody's sins, but not mine
Meltin' in a pot of thieves
Wild card up my sleeve
Thick heart of stone
My sins my own
They belong to me, me."

Patti had been a Jehovah's Witness, not a Catholic.
Dee Dee may have derived some good lines in her song from Patti, but I much prefer Dee Dee's songwriting & singing over generally tiresome (imo) Patti's.

Btw, llest anyone assume this song's a declaration of "atheism" rather than rebellion against Catholicism, note Dee Dee does refer to God in some of her songs, & her Twitter shows she follows several or more spiritual/mystical themed Twitter feeds. Plus, there's an interview on yt where she compares vegan restaurants in England vs. the U.S. & says U.S. ones tend to be more "New Agey," quickly adding, "Not that I'm not," i.e not that she's not New Agey herself.
And she wears that gold cross she says belonged to her late Mom around her neck onstage as one can see in the last photo of the slide show, what ever that may mean.
