We welcome a true original for the next instalment of RA Sessions.

The Swedish-born artist Neneh Cherry recently returned with Blank Project, her first solo album in 17 years. The record was essentially a collaboration between Cherry, one of pop's most creative and unpredictable figures, and RocketNumberNine, a sibling duo who push an often frantic form of contemporary jazz and electronica. Four Tet produced the album, which was recorded and mixed in five days. "In terms of its energy and sheer lust for life, it could not sound fresher," said RA's Tony Naylor. Cherry's music has always had this air of vitality—from her hip-hop influenced albums of the late '80s, to her more recent work with Norwegian/Swedish jazz trio The Thing, an irrepressible spirit has characterised her music. We got to see that spirit first hand when Cherry and RocketNumberNine stopped by London to perform "Weightless," a track that's sure to be a highlight of the group's many worldwide festival appearances this summer.
