Rockapella live performance, c.1991, Part 1 - Video
PUBLISHED:  Feb 27, 2008
DESCRIPTION:
Back in 1991, I spent some time in Japan. At the time, there were two satellite channels available to Japanese TV viewers. The satellite networks broadcast a lot of international programming, including movies and live concert footage. That's where I first encountered Rockapella.

I turned on the TV late one night and there they were, singing their unique style of music. This was before Jeff Thatcher's vocal percussion, before Scott Leonard's soaring tenor sound, and before they appeared on Carmen San Diego. In fact, about six months after this show appeared on Japanese TV, the group's first two CDs ("From NY" and "To NY") arrived in Japanese music stores.

When I realized what was on, I threw a tape into the VCR and started recording. I ended up with about 35 minutes of video. I found the tape recently and thought I'd post it here for anyone who wants to see how Rockapella looked and sounded 17 years ago. This is the first part of the recording that I made, so it's a little rough at the beginning and starts in the middle of a song.
