‘Mercury In Lemonade’, the 2nd Ice Cream Skyscraper CD is, in essence, the result of a

unique songwriting collaboration between two power pop icons, guitarist Huw Gower

(The Records) and vocalist Michael Mazzarella (The Rooks). The fruits of their labors,

however, easily transcend that particular genre. Whilst referencing the trailblazing bands of

the 60s (think of a blend of The Beatles, Brian Wilson, The Who and Led Zeppelin, seasoned

wth Kaleidoscope, Spirit, Keith Richards and The Soft Machine), the end result is uniquely a

creation of the second decade of the 21st century.

The band members are equally as powerful in their contributions to the soundscape.

Drummers ’Mad’ Mike Cullens (Mick Taylor, Chuck Berry) and Steve Holley (Paul

McCartney, Ian Hunter) lay down the grooves, bassist Dave Hofstra (The Voidoids, Marshall

Crenshaw) drives the bottom end, and Rik Mercaldi (Spyuten Duyvil, Genya Ravan) adds

his special guitar and lap steel flourishes. The Grateful Dead’s Robert Hunter contributes a

song lyric, and pianist Max Middleton (Jeff Beck, Kate Bush) puts in a cameo appearance.

Multi-keyboardist Bruce MacPherson (Fleetwood Mac, Lesley Gore) provides piano,

Hammond organ, Moog and ARP synthesizer embellishments throughout the recording; he

also mixed and mastered the tracks.
